Sigh I use Zbrush almost daily and while Pixologic is one of my favorite software companies and Zbrush really has no rival. Half the video is essentially propaganda. Especially around the 12 minute mark. Zbrush and dynamesh are very fast and a practiced hand can concept stuff out really quick.

I love Dynamesh and it's probably one of the most revolutionary things to happen to ART in the last decade - But one thing Zbrush is absolutely failing at and falling behind in is anything to do with Precision. You simply cannot put in a command 'make this hole 3cm diameter'. Zbrush has a labeless unit measurement and it's amazingly imprecise at the best of times.

Zbrush Summit

Oct 26, 2016 Blizzard Entertainment shows their process for creating Overwatch, Diablo, World of Warcraft: Legion. In celebration of its annual Summit, Pixologic has decided that all purchases of ZBrush will receive a 20% discount off the regular price.

Everything is 'eyeballed' as far as measurements are concerned. To make the gun you see in the video they are leaving out a REALLY important part.

They either started with a general mockup of dimensions from a white boxing in maya/max (fastest safest bet) or they used a photograph projected during the majority of the work and will go into a program like max/maya to adjust the various pieces after the fact to get them to the precise dimensions -if they care that is. General low poly OBJ/mesh work is still best done in Maya/3ds max. And precision work in Max/Maya 'Give me a cylinder that is 40cm dia and have 25 symmetrical holes that are 1cm dia cutting into the cylinder 5cm from the nearest edge entering at a 37 degree angle off set from the cylinder cap' Takes maybe 2 minutes or less to achieve. In Zbrush you can only get - at best, an approximation of that - maybe, if it's even possible.

There are pros and cons to the various programs - definitely - but it always bothers me when people over-sell Zbrush as something that it simply is not. It's one tool of many - not the end all be all tool - and if you treat it as such your workflow will suffer. And if I had to choose only one program to ever be able to use ever again I'd take zbrush in a heart beat. TL;DR: Precise Zbrush Pick one. Yeah, i'm game artist and zbrush user myself. I fully agree, there's problems with zbrush(ui it's a big one, specially for new users) also the really precise stuff like u said about unit measurements.

The hard surface modelling it's a somewhat new in zbrush history and i just think they never meant zbrush to handle that. I wonder if they gonna make some big changes(in the unit measurements), specially when they want to support 3d printing and already roll out new basic polymodelling tools like zmodeller.
