Piaggio Zip 50 Main Jet Size Gs
As you would expect it uses the standard 23mm inlet union size and. Supplied with a 65 main jet and 50 pilot it's readily set up for. Piaggio Zip 50, 100.
It shouldn't be a 125, i can tell you that! You probably have a DelOrto Si20/20 carb on there. The number is stamped on the side of the main jet - sometimes it's hard to read, but it's there. Normally you step up 2 numbers from your stock jet if you put on a Sito+.
So, if your main jet is a 116, you put in a 118 or a 119. If you DON'T upjet, you'll likely run hot and soft-seize ( or worse). If you OVERJET, but going up too many ( say a 125 when you need a 118 ), you'll foul plugs constantly, run very smokey, and eventually coke up your top and and clog your exhaust with unburnt gas/oil gook. In case you don't realize, the Main jet is located at the very bottom of your main jet stack, which is comprised of 3 seperate brass pieces, which are all sized / stamped and all effect the amount of fuel to air ratio the bike is getting depending on how far open your throttle is. The little tiny piece at the very bottom, about the size of a pencil eraser, is your main jet, and it effects how much gas to air gets into the engine AT 3/4 to FULL throttle. Here's a pic: If you don't know about this site, go memorize everything on it's a site dedicated completely to working on P-series vespas, but the lessons apply to all vintage vespas.
Thanks Eric.I wasn't sure to go up, and by how much.thank you again. Guess i have to get out my magnifying glass to read what I have in the PX.
Scooterhelp.com says that the Stock main jet for the SI20/20 carb on the PX150 of the 1980's was a 116 main. That sounds really hight to me - that's the same stock main jet as on the Rally 200 or P200 with a 24/24 carb. Your bike is more restricted though, to pass emissions laws and whatnot. It's possible they have a smaller main jet in there than 116. Now, the jump of 2-3 jet sizes is typical if you're going from STOCK exhaust to SITO+. But you're going from a STOCK CATALYZED exhaust to a SITO+, so maybe the jump will be higher. I dunno - there's about a million vespa dealerships and mechanics around the country you can call who have done this surgery.
It should be an easy answer to a commonly asked question - i just have never done it myself on one of these new PX150's -Eric. I know, it is awkward to write a message in a discussion which was stopped five years ago However, I would like to thank all who took part in this discussion because your experience helped me to adjust my PX150 today. I've been reading MV for years but have not written anything and even registered until few days ago. My confuguration: PX 150, 2005 US with catalytic converter. Stock: 150/BE5/98, 50/160 ( 45/160 in the manual!). Modified: 160/BE3/102, 50/160, SIP Road, NGK B7HS The plug looks perfect after a ride. I planned to go five up with idle gas number; I was too lazy to check the number myself The results, are amazing- smooth idle, powerful acceleration, 'longer' gears, it is much easier to climb hills now.
It was an anemic bike who struggled doing 50, now it is absolutely different machine! Everybody who mentioned SIP Road were right- pleasant stock-like sound, perfect fit and finish. Thanks again.
