Use, right click the file and select Extract to Open the folder it creates () Inside the folder you'll find SetupSG.exe, extract it the same way again and you will find the driver Go to your Device Manager (right click Computer - select Manage) Plug in the scanner so you can see it pop up in the Device Manager Right click it, Update / Install driver Select Browse my computer for driver then Let me pick from a list of drivers, just select 'All' then click OK Select Have Disk then Browse and select the CNQL60.INF file inside the SetupSG folder. It will say that it isnt the correct driver and may not work. But its lying Continue and you're done arty: EDIT: I now have this working on Windows 7 x64 using the same driver.
One additional piece of software that i needed to install was the CanoScan Toolbox which you can find. Melli, I got some of those types of errors (not the exact ones) when I was going through this. This is not a definitive answer - hopefully someone else will have one, or you could Google the error - but I would install the toolbox that was available there with the driver than you loaded up. Had I been using the older driver, I would have also been using the older toolbox, but since i moved to a higher level driver (from LIDE 50 to LIDE 60), I also installed the toolbox that went with it. Anyway, here is what i would do, but I'm not sure it will work. Worth a try if you get no other responses I suppose.
1) Install the toolbox that goes with the driver you installed. 2) Unplug the scanner 3) Reboot the computer 4) Let the computer start up completely (let it also run long enough to indicate that it's installed the new drivers if it says it's doing that) 5) Try running the scanner again. Also, you might want to read up in the thread - at one point someone said that they had to trick the device into thinking it had the disk. I had to do that part before it would work for me.
There are pretty good directions further up on how to do that. Hello, just registered here since I found this thread via google and so far it has been an insane amount of help. I've followed every instruction to the letter up until the end of the thread, and unfortunately my scanner still won't function.
I'm not sure if it's because I'm using a Lide 20 instead of a 35, but somebody on another forum did the exact same thing you guys are doing here, and he had the same model of scanner as I do, and got it working. I'm getting the same errors as the previous user; the toolbox says the 'other program is busy', then gives me a switch-to option that goes nowhere.
Then I get the communication error that my device is off or unplugged, and finally that my twain source can't be opened. I'm not exactly sure where to go from here, any insight would be MOST appreciated! Regardless, thank you so much. Even getting this far gave me hope when an hour ago I was looking into buying a new scanner.
Blumchen, did you install the toolbox that went with the driver you installed? You are now using a '60' scanner, so I think you'll want to install the 60 toolbox as well. Also, did you tell the system you had the disk when you installed the driver? That's an important trick.
One final thing. Every now and then I have to reinstall the driver.
I have no idea why, but I've gotten good enough at it that it's quick. It's possible that you might want to run through it one more time just in case.;-) Good luck!
